Dr. Najib Aziz is Adjunct Associate Professor of Department of Epidemiology of UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He has served as research scientist in the Departments of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics (MIMG) and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine of UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine from 1988 to 2012.
Dr. Aziz also has been working as research scientist and co-investigator of Los Angeles Center of Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS) since 1988. He has been directing the MACS peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) External Quality Assurance program for all four MACS centers (JohnHopkinsUniversity, University of Pittsburgh, NorthwesternUniversity and UCLA) since 2006.
Dr. Aziz has provided informal, hands-on instruction in laboratory training for various programs, including the Clinical Interdisciplinary Research in Immunologic Diseases (CIRID) postdoctoral fellows, AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) fellows, UCLA Clinical Immunology and Allergy residents, the UCLA Student Research Program, and various graduate students. He has traveled abroad (China) to train researchers on immunological laboratory methods and procedures. From 2000 to 2002 he served as member of Editorial Board of Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology Journal a publication of the American Society for Microbiology.
Dr. Aziz has more than 34 publications, and his five first authored papers relate to quality control measures and sources of variation in biological assays. He is a co-author on publications relating to HIV/AIDS as well as the immunological effects of cancer treatments in cancer survivors and cortisol and cytokines responses under various psychological conditions.
He received his M.D. on December 1978 and served as Assistant Professor in the Department of E.N.T. of School of Medicine of KabulUniversity from 1980-1985 and joint UCLA on 1988.
